Pushkar is a small town bordering the Thar desert in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The town is built around Pushkar Lake, a sacred Hindu pilgrim site.
As Pushkar residents are predominantly Hindu, you will only find vegetarian food served in local restaurants. If you are a meat lover and can’t stay away from a bottle, then Pushkar isn’t for you!
During our four night stay in Pushkar, we tried a mixture of street food, and local restaurants serving both Indian and Western cuisine.
Vela Resort is an incredible hotel which we spent our four nights – we initially booked the hotel for three nights but decided to extend our stay! The hotel is run by the owner Vikram, who takes pride in the hygiene of his kitchen. We often found ourselves eating at the hotel restaurant as the vegetables used are locally sourced and fresh! Each dish we tried was tasty! Main course dishes are in the region of 100 – 250 rupees.
We highly recommend this hotel and restaurant and we will definitely return in March 2020 for Holi Festival.

Il Fornaio Cafe & Pizzeria
Il Fornaio was recommended to us by travellers that we met in Pushkar. This restaurant offers Italian cuisine – a broad range of pasta dishes and stone baked pizzas. There is a small breakfast menu and Indian cuisine is also served here. We shared a classic stone baked Margarita pizza which cost 200 rupees.
For Western cuisine in India, Il Fornaio is reasonably priced and will not disappoint!

The staff members are very friendly and allow you to try the falafel before you buy a wrap to make sure that you like the flavour! Prices are between 80 – 150 rupees.
